AMOC Area 16 Newsletter April 2015
DB6 of Area 16 Member Peter Player: I have had my DB6 since 1975. I am the second owner the first being Kenneth Maidment who was a Director of Columbia Pictures UK in charge of James Bond films. The car is now nearly back to being in excellent condition having had the outriggers, jacking points etc all renewed. The engine has now been reworked having been converted to unleaded and to 4.2l The engine is now running and we should have her on the road again soon.
Next Regular Area 16 Club Meeting:
April 14th: 7.30pm. The Gardeners Arms, Selsfield Rd, Ardingly, West Sussex RH17 6TJ. Opposite the South of England Show Ground.
March 10th Our regular meeting and Skittle Night at the Royal Oak at Barcombe seemed to be a success with my thanks to 12 Members and 5 Astons who enjoyed some good food, good company and some excellent skittles, Two teams fought it out, captained by Steve Vyse and Keith Diggins, with Steve’s team winning by a small margin of 3 points, this was followed by a Female Team V Male Team game which resulted in total equality, of 39 points each, Finishing with the traditional game of “Killer” with much competitiveness between all. Steve Vyse opting to wear his glasses to improve his game and promptly missing all 6 skittles, along with some embarrassing moments for others, the final game resulting in the evenings champion being Peter Player collecting the trophy to keep for the year. We welcomed returning member Peter Player and his wife Caroline, and member Peter Powderham, who has been a member for some time who attended his first meeting at the skittles. All had a good time.
March 29th: Curling on Ice at Fentons Nr Tonbridge. http://www.fentonsrink.co.uk
The first AREA 16 Curling event was held in this converted barn, an amazing venue deep in the countryside. 24 keen players all turned up and had a very competitive and enjoyable afternoon of curling, occupying the whole complex across 3 sheets (lanes) with 8 players on each sheet, 4 in each team. The banter grew louder with the challenge, along with periods of silence during intense concentration. There were 6 teams, Team, Virage, Lagonda, Vanquish, DB, Vulcan and Vantage. after a challenging 2 hours on the ice, with only 3 players falling over, but some very good competition, Team Vulcan, on sheet 1 (all guests from Area 7) I have to say, were the overall winners with the highest score of the afternoon. The majority of the players then retired to a local pub, The Brecknock Arms, for a well earned drink and an excellent meal, our thanks go to the staff of the Brecknock Arms for accommodating 16 of us and for giving us such a good welcome. For Pictures of this event, see out Web site http://www.amoc-area16.co.uk
